Michael Chang-Beom Lee, aged 43, was tragically shot and killed inside his home in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, on September 24, 2022. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed that Lee died from a gunshot wound to the torso. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. when police responded to a 911 call from Lee's residence on the 2100 block of 78th Court East. Upon arrival, officers found Lee deceased on the floor.
Three individuals were apprehended in connection with Lee's death. Fotini West, aged 26, and her partner Logan Slack were arrested and charged with second-degree murder and burglary. A third individual, a man, was initially booked and released but later faced charges for aiding and abetting. West and Slack were both sentenced to 30 years in prison for their roles in the murder. The prosecution described West as a drug-addicted sex worker who used extortion to obtain money from victims. She falsely claimed that Lee had assaulted her, leading Slack to fatally shoot Lee.
Lee was remembered by his family and friends as a charming, friendly, and funny individual who loved playing volleyball and making kimchi. He was a devoted father to his two-year-old son, who was present in the home during the tragic event. The case has been sent to the Dakota County Attorney's office for further review.
