In the late afternoon of August 10, 2015, a domestic dispute in Wichita, Kansas, escalated into a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of 21-year-old Alaysia Sellers. The incident unfolded inside her mother's home in the 2600 block of North Minnesota. What began as an argument between Sellers and her 28-year-old boyfriend, Jordan Bobo, ended in a fatal shooting that would be classified as the county's only murder-suicide of that year.
The situation turned grim when Sellers'
mother heard a gunshot and discovered her other daughter, who was 20 years old at the time, wounded. The younger sister informed her mother that Alaysia had been shot by Bobo. Fearing for her life, the mother barricaded herself in a bedroom and called 911, hearing numerous other gunshots while on the phone with the dispatcher. When police arrived, they found a devastating scene. Alaysia Sellers was found deceased in the kitchen from a gunshot wound to the head. Her sister was discovered in the living room with multiple gunshot wounds but was still alive.
The perpetrator, Jordan Bobo, was found deceased between the two victims, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two young children, a 3-year-old boy and a 6-month-old girl, were also in the house at the time but were unharmed. Investigators believe an argument between Sellers and Bobo preceded the shooting, though the exact nature of the dispute remains unclear. Police records indicated no prior domestic violence calls involving the couple at that address. However, it was found that Bobo had a previous felony conviction for aggravated battery, which legally prohibited him from possessing a firearm.
