Javier Poloface Carbajal Chavez, a 25-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically killed on the evening of February 25, 2018, in Wichita, Kansas. The incident that claimed his life unfolded outside a convenience store where he was shot four times in the back. A friend who was with him at the time acted quickly, rushing him to a nearby hospital in the hope of saving his life.
Despite the immediate medical attention and undergoing surgery, the wounds Javier sustained were too severe.
A few hours after the shooting, he succumbed to his injuries. His mother, Liza Chavez, was given a mere 45 minutes to say her final goodbyes to her son. The loss has had a profound and lasting impact on his family, which includes his three daughters: Yesenia Hernandez, Arianna Gonzalez, and Leiliana Gonzalez.
In the aftermath of her son's death, Javier's mother has become a vocal advocate against gun violence, channeling her grief into action by creating a group called Mothers Against Gun Violence. Her aim is to promote stricter gun laws and to prevent other families from experiencing the same tragic loss. However, the pain for Javier's family is compounded by the fact that, to date, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder.
