In the quiet plains of Dodge City, Kansas, the life of a young, white/caucasian woman named Shantel Rose Brungardt Winkler was tragically cut short. At 27 years old, the mother of three was found deceased in a local motel room on Sunday, March 4, 2018, the victim of a single gunshot wound to the head. Known to her loved ones as Rose, she was remembered for her vibrant personality that could light up a room and her deep love for her children.
Originally from the Dodge City area, where she
was born on July 19, 1990, Rose had recently returned in January 2018 after living in McLouth, Kansas. A graduate of Jefferson County North High School in Winchester, she had earned her CNA from Brown Mackey College and was working as a Sales Consultant for G&G Kia in Dodge City. Her passions included working on trucks, horses, and barrel racing, but her greatest joy was spending time with her three young children, Weston, Kellie, and Texlyn. Described as a loving mother, she had dreams of one day owning a ranch in the country.
The investigation into her death quickly led to an arrest. An 18-year-old Dodge City man, Boston Cole Boswell, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and theft of a firearm. According to a family member, the weapon used in the incident was the one Rose carried for her own protection. While an arrest was made, detectives with the Dodge City Police Department continued their follow-up on the case.
