On a Sunday in November of 2018, the life of 27-year-old Courtney Bivins, a Caucasian female, was tragically cut short in Shawnee, Kansas. Her body was discovered on November 11, 2018, in a developing park area located in the 5500 block of Frisbie Road, near the Shawnee Riverfront Park. She had been fatally shot in what authorities would later rule a murder-suicide.
Responding to a request from the Kansas City Police Department to check on a possibly endangered person, Shawnee police
officers arrived at the scene shortly before 1 p.m. There, they found Courtney Bivins and 34-year-old Joshua P. Mobley of Mission, Kansas, deceased. The investigation concluded that Mobley had shot and killed Bivins before turning the gun on himself. Law enforcement officials stated that the two were considered to be close friends and were not in a domestic relationship.
Courtney, who had formerly gone by the last name Clifton, was remembered as a talented individual with a promising future. She was a former college basketball standout, having played for Western Kentucky University before transferring to Campbellsville University, where she graduated with a degree in biology. At the time of her death, she was working as a nurse and was reportedly pursuing a career in anesthesiology.
