On the evening of April 8, 2020, Micah Babick, a 30-year-old male from Prairie Village, Kansas, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a McDonald's on 87th Street in Overland Park. The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. near the Johnson County Central Resource Library. Police arrived to find Babick deceased from a gunshot wound. Initially, there was some confusion about the victim's age, with police first reporting him as 19 years old before correcting it to 30.
Babick's brother was present at the scene and witnessed the shooting.
The suspect, described as a Black male in his 20s with short dreadlocks, fled the scene in a red sedan. Following an investigation, police arrested 27-year-old Dvonte Jamal Brown of Overland Park in connection with the homicide. Brown was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. In January 2023, a Johnson County jury found Dvonte Jamal Brown guilty of the murder of Micah Babick.
In a surprising turn of events, a few months after the shooting, Micah Babick's younger brother, Roman Babick, was also arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to his brother's death. At the time of his arrest, Roman was 17 years old, and it was determined that he would be prosecuted as an adult.
