In the early morning hours of Friday, October 16, 2020, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet in Independence, Kansas, leading to a tragic discovery. A Black / African American man named Tyler Cook, age 27, was found deceased inside a vehicle that had crashed into an apartment building. He was not alone. Alongside him, another man, 24-year-old Rodricus Dawson, had also lost his life, and a 27-year-old woman was discovered with injuries from the attack.
