In the autumn of 2023, the life of Jason York, a 36-year-old white male from Independence, Kansas, was tragically cut short. On Monday, October 30, 2023, York was killed in a shooting incident in his hometown. His death prompted an extensive investigation led by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Independence Police Department, which would eventually span several months and cross state lines.
The investigation into Jason York's death led authorities to Missouri.
In late February 2024, the first significant break in the case occurred when three men were apprehended in St. Louis. On February 22, between 6:30 and 9 a.m., the U.S. Marshals Service and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office arrested 37-year-old Kevin A. Quinn, 20-year-old Aquan A. Quinn, and 23-year-old Kevin W. Martin. All three men, residents of St. Louis, were taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery in connection with York's shooting death. They were booked into the St. Louis County Jail to await extradition.
The investigative efforts did not conclude with these initial arrests. A few weeks later, on March 14, 2024, two more suspects were located and arrested in St. Louis by the U.S. Marshals Service and the St. Louis County Police Department fugitive task force. The two men were identified as 21-year-old Joshua B. Denton and 18-year-old Kayvion D. Williams, both from St. Louis. They were arrested at a residence on Count Drive and, like the suspects before them, faced warrants for first-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Following their arrests, they were also transported to the St. Louis County Jail. The Montgomery County Attorney's Office is expected to prosecute the cases against all five suspects.
