In the winter of 2020, a transaction arranged to take place in Wichita, Kansas, ended in the tragic death of Gary Ramsey, a 59-year-old Caucasian male. On the evening of December 7th, Ramsey, accompanied by his girlfriend, drove his 2004 Jeep SUV to the 1300 block of North Terrace, near 13th Street and Oliver, for what police described as a prearranged property deal. An argument erupted during the exchange, escalating to a horrifying moment of violence.
As Ramsey and his girlfriend attempted to leave the scene, a suspect opened fire on their vehicle.
Struck by at least one bullet, Ramsey lost control of the Jeep. His girlfriend, who had ducked down upon hearing a mention of a gun, managed to steer the moving vehicle into the parking lot of a nearby Dollar General and put it in park to seek help. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 7:50 p.m., where they found Ramsey critically injured. He was rushed to a local hospital, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries, marking the 50th criminal homicide in Wichita that year.
The investigation into Gary Ramsey's death remains ongoing, and authorities have stated that the shooting was not a random act. Despite the circumstances, witnesses have reportedly been uncooperative with the police. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide, and no suspect or suspects have been publicly identified. The case is now considered a cold case, leaving family and friends awaiting justice for a life cut short by a senseless act of violence.
