In the early hours of Sunday, February 27, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Caucasian female Sara Beck of Belton, Missouri, was tragically cut short in a violent confrontation in Lenexa, Kansas. The incident, which unfolded at a residence in the 8400 block of Laurelwood Street, also resulted in the deaths of her new boyfriend, 20-year-old John M. Williamson, and her ex-boyfriend, 37-year-old Dustin J. Johnson, also of Belton. Police were dispatched to the home around 1:20 a.m.
following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered one person deceased and two others with critical gunshot wounds who were transported to a local hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.
Subsequent investigation by the Lenexa Police Department revealed the incident to be a double murder-suicide, with Johnson identified as the shooter. It is believed that Johnson, armed with two handguns and a rifle, forcibly entered the home of Williamson, where Beck was visiting. Williamson's mother, who was also in the house, was awakened by the sound of gunshots. She told authorities that her son, in his final moments, identified Johnson as the assailant. Investigators later found Johnson wearing a tactical vest. The motive for this act appears to stem from the end of Johnson and Beck's relationship and her new relationship with Williamson.
The investigation into the events leading up to the fatal encounter uncovered a disturbing pattern of stalking. Beck's family revealed that Johnson had been stalking her for several months following their breakup, causing them great concern for her safety. This was substantiated by the discovery of suspected tracking devices on one of the vehicles towed from the scene. A further search of Johnson's home in Belton, Missouri, yielded more alarming findings, including materials for making explosives, pipe bombs, and a "ghost gun." The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department's Bomb and Arson Squad was called to assist in securing Johnson's residence. In the wake of this tragedy, no arrests were made as the sole suspect took his own life. The investigation has since focused on analyzing the electronic devices of those involved to piece together a complete picture of the circumstances that led to this devastating outcome.
