In what began as a mundane dispute over a dog, 30-year-old Emuel Hardy, a Black male, lost his life in a racially motivated act of violence on May 28, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas. Hardy, who had recently relocated to Wichita to be near his mother, encountered Roger Gale Jr. that day when he and his girlfriend asked Gale to clean up after his dog. This seemingly minor request set in motion a tragic chain of events that would end in Hardy's untimely death.
