On November 21, 2022, a domestic dispute in Kansas City, Kansas, ended in tragedy with the death of 23-year-old Loren Flores. A female, Flores was in the midst of a divorce from her husband, Miguel Flores. On that Monday afternoon, she was staying with friends at a residence in the area of South 52nd Terrace and Metropolitan Avenue. Her estranged husband arrived at the home and laid in wait for her on the front porch.

When Loren returned from running errands, she appeared visibly nervous upon seeing him. Anticipating a confrontation, she handed her phone to a witness and gave a chilling instruction: to call 911 if Miguel Flores tried to attack her. An argument broke out between the estranged couple shortly after, which tragically escalated. The sounds of multiple gunshots rang out, and Loren Flores was pronounced dead at the scene from a fatal gunshot wound.

Following the shooting, Miguel Flores fled the residence in a red Dodge Challenger and drove to a relative's home elsewhere in the city. The witness at the scene quickly alerted authorities, providing them with the suspect's name and vehicle description, which led police to the second location. When officers arrived, a brief standoff ensued as Flores allegedly pointed a Glock 10mm handgun at them from behind his vehicle. After repeated commands to drop the weapon, he surrendered and was taken into custody. Police later confirmed that the handgun he brandished was the same one used in the killing.

Miguel Flores was subsequently charged with first-degree premeditated murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Following a two-day jury trial in October 2025, he was found guilty on all counts.
