Tyszu Smith, a 34-year-old African-American mother, was fatally shot on September 24, 2005, in Kansas City, Kansas. Known to her loved ones as "Tosha," she was a vibrant and multi-talented woman who excelled in both athletics and the arts. In high school, she was a standout athlete in track and basketball and even taught herself how to play the piano.
