Jeremy Michael Boorda, aged 56, was a distinguished United States Navy admiral who served as the 25th Chief of Naval Operations. On May 16, 1996, Boorda died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest at his residence in Washington, D.C. He was discovered outside his quarters at the Navy Yard and was pronounced dead at D.C. General Hospital at 2:30 p.m. Boorda's death was ruled a suicide, and no suspects were involved in the incident.
