Thomas Franklin Hamlette, Jr., a 24-year-old off-duty officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, was tragically killed on July 18, 1998. The incident occurred shortly after midnight in front of The Club nightclub located at 1213 K Street, NW. Officer Hamlette became involved in an argument with another man, during which he produced his service weapon. A struggle ensued, and the weapon discharged.
