James D. Ford, aged 70, passed away on August 27, 2001, in Washington, D.C. Ford was a prominent clergyman, known for his long tenure as the Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives. He served in this role from 1979 until his retirement in 2000, making him the second-longest serving chaplain in the history of the House. Ford was also the first full-time chaplain and the only Lutheran to hold the position.
