On September 2, 2016, Lamar Purnell Parrish, a 28-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was found shot multiple times in the 2500 block of 14th Street NE in Northeast Washington. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene early that morning and discovered Parrish's body. Despite their efforts, Parrish was pronounced dead at the scene.
