On a summer evening in Washington, D.C., a gathering of friends at a barbecue on Fairlawn Avenue was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When the chaos subsided, 38-year-old Daniel Shelton Parker lay on the ground, having been shot multiple times. The attack was sudden and brutal, leaving Parker with so many entry and exit wounds that the medical examiner could not determine the exact number.
