On the evening of April 4, 2019, in Washington, D.C., a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leaving two young men dead. Jobe McDowney, a 23-year-old Black male, was discovered inside the stairwell of a residential building in the 4900 block of Nash Street, Northeast. He, along with 21-year-old Desmond Richardson, had been fatally shot. When emergency services arrived at approximately 8:15 p.m., they found both McDowney and Richardson showing no signs of life.
The violence of that
evening was not confined to the stairwell. A third adult male was found a short distance away in the 900 block of 44th Street, Northeast, also suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. McDowney was a resident of Southeast, D.C., while Richardson was from Temple Hills, Maryland.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the double homicide. Authorities have not released any detailed descriptions or names of any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been announced. The police have appealed to the public for assistance in gathering information regarding the shooting. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Jobe McDowney and Desmond Richardson. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to seek justice for the victims and their families.
