On March 13, 2021, at approximately 10:43 PM, Nicolas "Nicco" Hawkins, a 29-year-old resident of Greenbelt, Maryland, was shot and killed in the 600 block of O Street, NW, Washington, DC. Hawkins was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on a sidewalk and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) immediately began an investigation and sought public assistance in gathering information about the homicide.
