On September 22, 2015, a series of tragic events unfolded in Reno and Sparks, Nevada, culminating in the deaths of James “Jimmy” Anderson, Debby Constantino, and Mark Constantino. The investigation began when James Anderson, aged 56 and a roommate of Debby Constantino, was found dead in their Reno apartment located on Escalera Court.
The discovery of Anderson's body triggered a chain of events that led police to track Debby Constantino's cellphone, which was traced to her daughter's
apartment in Sparks, Nevada. Mark Constantino, Debby's estranged husband, was known to be staying at this apartment. When officers arrived at the Courtside Gardens Apartments, they heard shots fired inside and a voice demanding 15 minutes to gather his thoughts or he would kill Debby. Despite attempts at negotiation, the situation escalated, and a SWAT team was forced to use explosives to break through the barricade Mark had set up.
Upon entering the apartment, officers found the bodies of Mark and Debby Constantino. The investigation revealed that Mark had kidnapped Debby, killed James Anderson, and then killed Debby before taking his own life. This conclusion was based on the sequence of events and evidence gathered during the investigation.
Mark Constantino had a history of domestic violence against Debby. Just a month prior to the incident, in August 2015, Mark and their daughter, Raquel Constantino, were arrested and charged with kidnapping, domestic battery, and other related offenses after they allegedly dragged Debby out of her car and assaulted her. Mark faced charges including domestic battery by strangulation and first-degree domestic battery, while Raquel was charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and domestic battery. Debby had also faced charges of domestic violence and battery with a deadly weapon against Mark earlier in the year.
The relationship between Mark and Debby was marked by a history of domestic abuse, and Debby had a restraining order against Mark at the time of their deaths. The tragic end to their lives was a culmination of the escalating violence and tension in their relationship, which ultimately led to the deaths of both Debby and her roommate, James Anderson.
