In the spring of 2017, the life of 42-year-old Jordan Taitano came to an abrupt and violent end in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the evening of April 4th, Taitano was outside a liquor store on East Twain Avenue when he was approached by a bicyclist. The rider fired two shots, striking Taitano in the chest before riding away. Taitano was rushed to Sunrise Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later.
His death was the 50th homicide investigated in Clark County that year.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a prior conflict between Taitano and his assailant. Surveillance footage from the liquor store captured an altercation earlier the same day, during which Taitano had punched the man who would later shoot him. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Andres Garcialeal, was seen on video returning to the area in the evening. The two men exchanged words across the parking lot before Taitano got on his bicycle. Garcialeal then rode past him, firing the fatal shots.
Following the shooting, Garcialeal fled and became the subject of a manhunt. His time as a fugitive was short-lived, however. On April 11, just a week after the shooting, federal law enforcement agents apprehended him as he attempted to cross back into the United States from Mexico. Garcialeal was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon. He was also facing drug charges in two separate cases. No bail was set for him.
