On the night of October 1, 2017, 28-year-old Cameron Lee Robinson, a White male, was enjoying the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was at the concert with his boyfriend, Bobby Eardley, when the festive atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Robinson was tragically struck in the neck by a bullet and died at the scene.
His boyfriend was also wounded in the attack but survived his injuries.
The shots that killed Robinson and dozens of others were fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, overlooking the concert grounds. The gunman was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, who had meticulously planned the attack, bringing an arsenal of weapons to his hotel suite. For ten minutes, between 10:05 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., Paddock fired more than 1,000 rounds into the crowd of approximately 22,000 concertgoers.
An hour after his deadly assault began, as law enforcement breached his hotel room, Paddock was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigations concluded that Paddock acted alone, and his motive for the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history remains officially undetermined. Consequently, no arrests were made in connection with the shooting itself.
Cameron Robinson was remembered as a compassionate and humorous man. He worked as a legal records specialist for the city of Las Vegas, commuting from his home in Utah. Those who knew him described him as a beautiful, warm, and loving person who was the center of his office and always willing to volunteer. Just hours before the shooting, he had sent a picture from the festival to his boss, a look of pure joy on his face.
