In the quiet community of Spring Creek, Nevada, the life of 33-year-old Karen Williams, a White/Caucasian female, was tragically cut short on the evening of January 11, 2018. A loving mother and a miner at Newmont Gold Mines, she had recently moved into a new home, seeking a fresh start. That hope for a new beginning was shattered in an act of domestic violence that unfolded within the walls of her residence.
Deputies from the Elko County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a
domestic dispute at Karen's home at approximately 8:45 p.m. Upon their arrival, they were met by Karen's sister, who let them inside. The deputies could hear arguing coming from a bedroom and, as they opened the door, they witnessed a horrifying scene. Karen's estranged husband, 31-year-old Jared S.R. Williams, fatally shot her. In the moments that followed, the deputies shot and killed Jared.
The tragedy left a profound impact, particularly on the four children who were present in the home at the time of the shooting.
