On January 10, 2019, the life of 36-year-old Jonathan Louis Burgos was cut short in a central Las Vegas alleyway. A dispute over a motorcycle led to a fatal encounter with his ex-girlfriend, 25-year-old Kayla Michelle Biron. Burgos, a man who had moved to Las Vegas from Southern California to be closer to his family and start fresh, was attempting to retrieve his stolen motorcycle when the confrontation occurred.
That afternoon, Burgos, accompanied by his current girlfriend and others,
went to an alley near West New York Avenue to reclaim his motorcycle. There, he was met by Biron, with whom he had an ongoing dispute. As Burgos began pushing the motorcycle down the alley, Biron followed, armed with a short-pump shotgun. Witnesses reported that the two were arguing as they walked.
The argument escalated, and Burgos, turning to face Biron, challenged her, saying something to the effect of "if she was going to shoot him to do it already." Biron then fired the shotgun, striking Burgos in the head. He was rushed to University Medical Center, where he died from the gunshot wound. After the shooting, Biron fled the scene in a gray SUV.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police quickly identified Biron as the suspect. Nearly three weeks later, on January 28, 2019, she was apprehended without incident by a fugitive task force comprised of FBI agents and officers from Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas police. Kayla Michelle Biron was arrested and charged with murder with a deadly weapon.
