On September 28, 2014, Demureye Macon, a 13-year-old boy, was fatally shot in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. The shooting occurred near the 6600 block of South Talman Avenue, close to Montgomery Park. According to reports, Demureye was asked by the shooter about his gang affiliation, to which he responded that he did not belong to any gang. Shortly afterward, he was shot as he attempted to run away. He was struck in the chest and tragically died from his injuries.
