In the quiet, early morning hours of November 20, 2022, a south Reno community was shaken by violence. On the 8000 block of Offenhauser Drive, Priscilla Garibay, a 31-year-old Hispanic woman, was discovered lying in the street with a fatal gunshot wound to her chest. She was rushed to Renown Regional Medical Center, but her injury was too severe, and she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed her identity and officially ruled her death a homicide.
The Reno Police Department immediately began an intensive investigation. Their work quickly led them to a suspect who was located nearby, identified as 27-year-old Fabian Zeragoza-Martinez. When officers attempted to make contact, Zeragoza-Martinez tried to escape, jumping a fence in an attempt to elude them. The pursuit was brief, and he was quickly apprehended by the officers at the scene.
Following his capture, Fabian Zeragoza-Martinez was arrested and charged with open murder with a deadly weapon. He was booked into custody as the legal process began to unfold. While an arrest had been made, investigators did not release further details to the public about a potential motive or the specific events that led to the fatal shooting.
The case against Zeragoza-Martinez proceeded into the judicial system. As of late November 2022, the investigation remained active while the prosecution prepared its case.
