In the summer of 2023, the life of a 30-year-old Caucasian woman, Ashley Forcum, was tragically cut short in Reno, Nevada. On the evening of July 9th, the Reno Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 2400 block of Tybo Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ashley Forcum with fatal gunshot wounds. Witnesses at the scene identified her husband, Mark Forcum, as the person who had allegedly shot and killed her.
Following the incident, a manhunt for Mark Forcum
ensued. The search concluded on the following Tuesday when authorities located him as a passenger in a vehicle. He was apprehended without incident by the Regional Crime Suppression Unit during a traffic stop. Mark Forcum was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges, including open murder with a deadly weapon, child abuse, and neglect. This was not his first encounter with law enforcement, as he had a pending court appearance in Elko for a previous incident in August 2022 where he was accused of running over a family member with his car.
In a later turn of events, on December 18, 2023, Mark Forcum was found dead in his cell at the Washoe County Jail. His death was ruled a suicide. At the time of his death, he was facing charges of open murder with a deadly weapon, child abuse with a deadly weapon, and failure to appear after a bail hearing related to the death of his wife, who died from a gunshot wound to the head. His bail had been set at $5 million.
