In a tragic turn of events on November 28, 2022, a violent dispute in Las Vegas claimed the life of 23-year-old Rachel Lewis. The female victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to her injuries the following day at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
The incident unfolded outside a residence on Yucca Avenue, where Lewis had gone to intervene in an argument between her sister and her sister's boyfriend, 26-year-old Joseph Kennard.
Reports indicate that the confrontation escalated, drawing in Kennard's ex-girlfriend as well.
During the altercation, Kennard retrieved a 9mm AR rifle and shot Lewis. Witnesses stated that Kennard fired the weapon as Lewis was fighting with his ex-girlfriend. Kennard himself later told police that he shot at Lewis in an attempt to stop her from attacking his ex-girlfriend.
After the shooting, Kennard remained at the scene and identified himself to the police, claiming he had shot Lewis "on accident". He was taken into custody and initially arrested on gun-related charges. Following Lewis's death, the charges were upgraded to murder and assault. Kennard was held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
