In an unforeseen and tragic turn of events on a ranch just south of Trinchera, Colorado, Deputy Sheriff Francisco Garcia of the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office was killed on October 19, 1905. He had traveled to the ranch on unrelated business, tragically unaware that a murder suspect was seeking refuge there.
