On a winter afternoon in Denver, Colorado, the casual atmosphere of a local pool hall was irrevocably shattered. On January 3, 1983, Thomas Edward Gilson, a 44-year-old Black male, was inside Roy Green's Place at 1616 E. 34th Ave. An unknown assailant entered the establishment and suddenly began shooting at the patrons. Amid the chaos and gunfire, Gilson was struck and sustained significant injuries.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Gilson was rushed to a local hospital
for treatment. For more than three months, he fought for his life, enduring the severe wounds inflicted upon him. Despite the efforts of medical staff, his injuries proved to be too grave. On April 7, 1983, Thomas Edward Gilson succumbed to the complications from the shooting and passed away.
The Denver Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the shooting, which is now considered a cold case. To date, the suspect responsible for the shooting that led to Gilson's death remains unknown, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Authorities continue to seek information from the public that might lead to the apprehension and prosecution of the person or persons responsible for this violent act.
