In early 2000, the body of a 38-year-old white male, Frank Chaminade Hoebich, was discovered in a desolate stretch of the Mojave Desert, 67 miles west of Las Vegas. A Bureau of Land Management officer happened upon a rolled-up carpet on January 9, 2000, and upon unfurling it, found Hoebich's remains. An autopsy would later reveal that he had been shot twice, once in the chest and once in the upper left arm, with a 9mm bullet and had likely been deceased for at least a week before his discovery.
