In the Five-Points neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, a verbal altercation on November 6, 2002, tragically escalated, ending the life of 48-year-old Paul Gray. The Black male was hanging out in the area when he became engaged in a dispute with an unknown individual. During the course of this argument, the unidentified person produced a firearm and shot Gray.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Gray was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he did not survive. The Denver Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the shooting, but the suspect remains unknown, and no arrests have been made in the case. The case is now considered a cold case, and authorities continue to ask for the public's help with any information that might lead to the identification and arrest of the person responsible for Paul Gray's death.
In the months following the incident, investigators explored a potential connection between Gray's murder and another shooting. A man named Anthony Jefferson, who was killed in an officer-involved shooting the day after Gray's death, had used the same caliber weapon. It was also discovered that at one point, Gray and Jefferson had lived in the same building. However, police could not confirm whether the two men knew each other, and as of early 2003, no definitive link had been established to name Jefferson as a suspect in Gray's death.
