In the early morning hours of December 18, 2012, the life of 32-year-old Maximino “Max” Aguirre Ojeda was tragically cut short in a violent intrusion into his Longmont, Colorado, home. A hardworking and gregarious man, known for his generosity, he had moved to the area from Mexico a decade prior and had recently married Maria Cintora-Silva. The couple had just purchased their first home together, a place that would tragically become a scene of immense loss.
The harrowing event unfolded around 4 a.m. when Daniel Sanchez, 31, forced his way into the residence. Sanchez was the ex-boyfriend of Maria's sister, Beatriz Cintora-Silva, who had recently ended her relationship with him and sought refuge in her sister's home. Just hours before the shooting, Sanchez had been released from the Boulder County Jail after being arrested for domestic violence against Beatriz.
Once inside the home, Sanchez opened fire, killing Max Aguirre Ojeda and his 22-year-old wife, Maria Cintora-Silva, in one bedroom. He then shot and killed 25-year-old Beatriz Cintora-Silva in another room. During the attack, one of the women managed to call 911. A dispatcher heard cries of 'No, no, no,' followed by the sound of gunfire. Sanchez then got on the line and informed the dispatcher he was going to kill himself before a final gunshot was heard.
When Weld County SWAT officers entered the home, they discovered the bodies of the three victims and the suspect, Daniel Sanchez, who had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators found a. 45-caliber Glock handgun near Sanchez's body. The incident was ruled a triple murder-suicide, stemming from the recent domestic violence incident and the breakup between Sanchez and Beatriz Cintora-Silva. There were no arrests to be made as the sole suspect had taken his own life at the scene.
