In the summer of 2016, a tragic event unfolded in Denver, Colorado, that claimed the life of 27-year-old Sean Point, a man who had moved to the city a few years prior to be closer to his brother. His life was cut short on the evening of Friday, June 3rd, in what authorities would later describe as a violent episode stemming from a drug deal that had taken a fatal turn.
That night, police were called to a residence in the Northeast Park Hill neighborhood.
Inside, they discovered a grim scene. Sean Point and another man, Devonne Burton, were found deceased, having suffered from gunshot wounds. A third man, Derrius Woods, was found critically injured and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he too succumbed to his injuries. The incident was quickly classified as a triple homicide, shaking the community and prompting an intensive investigation.
In the days and weeks that followed, the story behind the violent deaths began to emerge. Investigators determined that the killings were the result of a robbery gone wrong. The search for those responsible extended beyond the borders of Colorado, leading law enforcement on a multi-state manhunt. Their efforts ultimately proved successful with the apprehension of three suspects. Chadd Evans, a former University of Colorado football player, was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Another suspect, Deashaun Turrentine, was taken into custody in Las Vegas, Nevada. The third individual, Dejuan Jones, was also located and arrested in Tulsa. All three men were subsequently charged in connection with the murders of Sean Point, Devonne Burton, and Derrius Woods, bringing a measure of resolution to a case that had so violently ended three young lives.
