In a quiet home in Fountain, Colorado, the life of 56-year-old Valerie Hills came to a tragic end in what police have described as a murder-suicide. On June 12, 2016, officers were called to the residence to conduct a welfare check, and upon entry, they discovered the bodies of Hills, a female, and her 60-year-old husband, Merwin Rowe.
The investigation into the deaths of the couple concluded that Rowe was the sole suspect in the death of his wife. After fatally wounding Hills, Rowe then took his own life. The El Paso County Coroner's Office officially ruled Valerie Hills' death a homicide and Merwin Rowe's death a suicide.
The grim discovery was reportedly prompted by a note found by a neighbor, which alluded to the violent events that had transpired within the home. The contents of the note led to the involvement of law enforcement and the subsequent finding of the deceased couple. No arrests were made as the perpetrator was already deceased.
