In the early morning hours of June 1, 2017, a promising young life was tragically cut short. Christopher Sandoval, a 22-year-old male, had recently embarked on his dream career as a police officer with the Fort Morgan Police Department. He was the youngest member of the force and was well-liked by his colleagues. After finishing an overtime shift, he drove to Westminster, Colorado, to visit a friend in the Stratford Lakes neighborhood.
What was supposed to be a time of relaxation and camaraderie took a devastating turn. Around 2:40 a.m., an incident occurred inside the garage of the home. When emergency services arrived, Christopher was found with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, but his injury was too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m., leaving his family, friends, and fellow officers in shock and grief.
The Westminster Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the young officer's death.
