In the summer of 2019, the life of 23-year-old Wayne Scott Riddock was tragically cut short in Pueblo, Colorado. On June 25th of that year, he was found deceased, the victim of a fatal shooting. An autopsy would later confirm that Riddock died from a single shotgun blast to his upper right chest. The young man's unexpected death left his family, including his parents and brother, to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
The investigation into Riddock's death quickly pointed to a
suspect: Gene Edward Pool. Eyewitness accounts led detectives to identify Pool as the alleged shooter, and a warrant for his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder was issued just two days after the incident. The search for Pool intensified as law enforcement agencies, including the Pueblo Police Department and the U.S. Marshals' Colorado Violent Offender Task Force, worked to bring him into custody.
The manhunt for Gene Edward Pool reached its conclusion on June 28, 2019, just three days after Riddock's death. Officers located Pool at a mobile home park in Pueblo. A standoff ensued, during which Pool was reportedly armed with a silver, short-barreled shotgun. Despite attempts to have him surrender, Pool exited the mobile home and was shot and killed by police. The subsequent investigation into the officer-involved shooting deemed the officers' actions justified, as they believed Pool posed an imminent threat. His death brought an end to the search for the sole suspect in Wayne Riddock's murder.
