In the autumn of 2019, the life of 32-year-old Brittany Guern was tragically cut short. On the evening of October 18th, events unfolded at the Blue Sky Motel on West Colfax Avenue in Lakewood, Colorado, that would end in her untimely death. Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 9:30 p.m., Lakewood Police Department agents arrived at the motel to a grim scene. Inside, they discovered Guern suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
She was rushed to a local hospital, but her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing several individuals fleeing the motel in different directions immediately following the shooting. One of the men was said to have been seen with a gun in his hand. As the investigation commenced, authorities quickly identified a person of interest. That individual was 32-year-old Asha Thompson, who also went by the nickname 'Ace.' Police began a search for Thompson, considering him to be armed and dangerous.
A few days after the fatal shooting, investigators received a crucial tip that led them to the Big Bunny Motel, located directly across the street from the crime scene. It was there that they located and arrested Asha Thompson in connection with Brittany Guern's death. Following his arrest, Thompson was faced with a litany of serious charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim, menacing, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. He was subsequently held without bond at the Jefferson County jail. In a later development, the case against Thompson faced a legal challenge when a court ruled that the initial warrant to search his cell phone was overly broad, raising questions about the admissibility of evidence found on the device.
