On a tragic day in Boulder, Colorado, Suzanne Leslie Fountain, a 59-year-old woman, lost her life in a senseless act of violence. On March 22, 2021, she was one of ten people killed in a mass shooting at a King Soopers supermarket. Known as a bright light to those who knew her, Suzanne was a beloved member of the community.
Suzanne had a passion for the arts and was actively involved in the local theater scene. For a decade, she served as the house manager at eTown Hall, a non-profit dedicated to music and the environment, where she was known for warmly welcoming countless people. In the years leading up to her death, she found a new calling as a licensed Medicare agent, helping individuals over 65 navigate their benefits.
The man responsible for her death, Ahmad Al Aliwi Al-Issa, was arrested at the scene after being shot in the leg by police. He was armed with a Ruger AR-556 pistol. Following his arrest, Al-Issa faced a lengthy legal process. After undergoing mental evaluations, he was eventually found competent to stand trial.
In September 2024, a jury found Ahmad Al Aliwi Al-Issa guilty on 55 felony counts, which included ten counts of first-degree murder and numerous counts of attempted murder. He was subsequently sentenced to ten consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life in prison for the devastating attack that cut short the lives of Suzanne Fountain and nine others. In the wake of this tragedy, Suzanne is remembered by her son and her partner, as well as a large circle of close friends who cherished her kind and vibrant spirit.
