In the spring of 2021, a birthday celebration in Colorado Springs turned into a scene of unimaginable horror, forever altering the lives of a close-knit family. On May 9th of that year, 30-year-old Melvin Perez was tragically killed in a mass shooting that claimed the lives of five of his family members as well. The devastating event unfolded at a birthday party, where a joyous occasion was shattered by an act of domestic violence.
