In September of 2021, 55-year-old Saza Lee, an Asian male, told his wife he was going for an evening bike ride along his usual route on the St. Vrain Greenway to Sandstone Ranch in Longmont, Colorado, and would be home later that evening. However, Saza Lee never returned home, prompting his wife to report him missing. Because he had left for his ride on his own, police did not suspect any foul play in his initial disappearance. A 'Help Find Saza Lee' Facebook group was created to assist in the search for him.
The search for Saza Lee continued for months until February 13, 2022, when his body was discovered at Sandstone Ranch. The Boulder County Coroner's Office was able to positively identify the remains as Saza Lee by using his dental records. An autopsy was performed, which revealed the cause of his death to be a gunshot wound to the head. The report also noted the presence of gunshot residue on his body, as well as some superficial wounds on his upper extremities and lacerations on his head and leg that may have occurred after his death.
The Boulder County Coroner ultimately ruled Saza Lee's manner of death as a suicide. The Longmont Department of Public Safety indicated that the coroner's findings were consistent with their initial investigation, and they did not suspect any foul play in his death. As a result, there were no arrests or suspects in the case.
