In the winter of 2022, the life of Kristopher Michael Wilson, a 41-year-old man, was tragically cut short in Colorado Springs, Colorado. On the evening of January 20th, at approximately 9:07 PM, police received a report of a shooting on the Martin Luther King Jr. Bypass. Responding officers discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
His death was later ruled a homicide.
Originally from Smethport, Pennsylvania, Kristopher was a 1999 graduate of Port Allegany High School. The unexpected and violent nature of his death sent ripples of shock and grief through his community back home.
For weeks, the investigation into his death continued with no arrests made. However, detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department's Homicide/Assault Unit diligently pursued leads. Their investigation led them to 25-year-old Jesus Velasco of Colorado Springs. On March 15, 2022, an arrest warrant was issued for Velasco for the charge of first-degree murder. In a turn of events, Velasco was already incarcerated at the El Paso County jail on an unrelated warrant when he was served with the murder charge. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public.
