In the early morning hours of March 22, 2022, the life of 24-year-old Tryvone Brooks, a male resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was tragically cut short. Police received a call about a shooting at a residence in the 1400 block of East Columbia Street at approximately 9:34 A.M. Upon arrival, officers discovered Brooks deceased inside the home from multiple gunshot wounds.
The El Paso County Coroner's Office later officially ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation into Brooks' death quickly moved forward, and three days later, on March 25, 2022, detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department's Homicide/Assault Unit identified a suspect. Raquel Chamberlain, a 19-year-old from Colorado Springs, was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the El Paso County jail. She was facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Tryvone Brooks.
Further details emerged, painting a picture of a volatile relationship between Chamberlain and Brooks, who was the father of her child. An arrest affidavit revealed that the two had been involved in frequent arguments. Just two days prior to the shooting, Brooks had allegedly assaulted Chamberlain, her mother, and a friend. This incident was reported to the police, and Chamberlain had also filed for a protective order against him. According to the affidavit, Chamberlain claimed that Brooks had made threats to kill her and her family, leading her to fear for their lives. She eventually admitted to investigators that she had shot Brooks after an argument at his home.
