On a summer afternoon in Lamar, Colorado, the lives of several people were irrevocably changed by an act of violence. On July 23, 2022, 50-year-old Roy Bock was shot and killed in what authorities would later describe as a triple shooting. The incident, which unfolded at the Lamar Apartments in the 700 block of Mullen Street, also claimed the life of 58-year-old Loretta Rhoades, who was pronounced deceased at the scene alongside Bock.
A third victim, 18-year-old Keisha Graeff, was critically injured in the attack and airlifted to a hospital in the Denver area for treatment.
The suspect in the shootings was identified as 24-year-old Jourden White. It is believed that White knew the victims, though the exact nature of their relationship was part of the ensuing investigation. After the shooting, White fled the apartment complex, prompting a BOLO alert to be issued to area law enforcement. His vehicle was soon spotted by officers from the Granada Police Department, initiating a pursuit that involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
The chase came to an end in a field near Holly, Colorado, where White stopped his vehicle. As officers closed in, he exited the car and took his own life with a handgun. Law enforcement officials confirmed that no shots were fired by any officers during the pursuit or its conclusion. The investigation into the motive for the tragic events continued.
In the days that followed, the community mourned the loss of Roy Bock and Loretta Rhoades. The sad news was compounded when Keisha Graeff, who had been on life support since the shooting, succumbed to her injuries on July 29, 2022. The deaths of Bock, Rhoades, and Graeff at the hands of Jourden White marked a dark day for the small city of Lamar, leaving friends and family to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of their loved ones.
