In the early morning hours of October 30, 2022, a tragic event unfolded in a home on Geneva Street in Aurora, Colorado, ending the life of 20-year-old Kenneth Eugene Green Luque, a male of Honduran descent. He was one of four people killed in a violent shooting that stemmed from a domestic dispute. The incident was set in motion when Joseph Castorena, the ex-boyfriend of a woman who was related to the victims, broke into the residence.
Castorena lay in wait with a firearm for the family
to return from a party. When they arrived, he opened fire, fatally shooting Kenneth Eugene Green Luque, his 22-year-old wife Maria Anita Serrano, his 51-year-old father-in-law Jesus Serrano, and a 49-year-old tenant named Rudolfo Salgado Perez who was living in an RV on the property. Castorena's ex-girlfriend, who had been the target of his anger, managed to survive the attack along with her two children. It was later revealed that she and her father had obtained a restraining order against Castorena just days before the shooting.
Following the killings, Joseph Castorena fled the scene, sparking a multi-agency manhunt. His escape was allegedly aided by his brother and a cousin, who were later arrested and charged with accessory to first-degree murder. After weeks on the run, Castorena was apprehended on December 10, 2022, in the state of Aguascalientes, Mexico, through a coordinated effort involving the FBI, local police, and Mexican authorities. He was extradited back to Colorado to face justice. In May 2024, a jury found Joseph Castorena guilty on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. He was subsequently sentenced to four consecutive life sentences, ensuring he would spend the rest of his life in prison for the devastating act of violence that claimed the lives of four innocent people.
