On October 29, 1999, 20-year-old Jose Holguin was fatally shot in the head while driving with friends near Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The sudden and violent nature of his death deeply affected his family, leaving them without closure.
Despite ongoing investigations, authorities have not identified or apprehended any suspects in connection with Holguin's murder.
The case remains unsolved, contributing to the approximately 50 cold cases in Bernalillo County. In an effort to address these unresolved cases, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office revamped its Cold Case Unit in 2013, adding two new investigators with extensive experience. The unit has been actively engaging with victims' families and exploring innovative methods to generate leads, such as distributing playing cards to inmates featuring information about cold case victims.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Jose Holguin's death. The lack of suspects continues to hinder the investigation, prolonging the family's quest for justice. Authorities remain committed to solving this case and bringing closure to those affected.
