In the early evening of March 5, 2019, in Farmington, New Mexico, an altercation escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 31-year-old Nathaniel Tracy. The male victim was on the 300 block of North Monterey Avenue when the incident occurred. Farmington police officers were dispatched to the scene around 6:48 p.m. following reports of a possible shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered local residents attempting to save Tracy's life by administering CPR.
Emergency medical services transported Tracy to the San Juan Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital on March 6, 2019. The investigation into the shooting was immediately launched by detectives, the Farmington Police Department's Gang Unit, and crime scene investigators. Through their work, they identified 18-year-old Isaiah Ontiveros as the suspect in the deadly confrontation.
The day after the fatal shooting, on the morning of March 6, Isaiah Ontiveros surrendered to authorities, turning himself in at the Farmington Police Department around 10:45 a.m. Following his surrender, a warrant was issued for his arrest. Ontiveros was subsequently arrested and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center. He faced an open count of homicide and two counts of tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Nathaniel Tracy.
