Aaliyah J. Vigil, a 20-year-old Black / African American female, had her life cut short on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on May 28, 2002, in Chandler, Arizona, Aaliyah had moved to Albuquerque at a young age. Those who knew her remember a vibrant young woman with a spirited enthusiasm for life.
On that summer evening, officers were called to a shooting at a residence located at 9010 Alexis Ave SW.
When they arrived, they found a tragic scene with three young women suffering from gunshot wounds. Aaliyah was one of them, and she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The incident, which took place at a house party, also left two other females wounded.
Aaliyah was known as a "go-getter," a hardworking individual who often held more than one job. She had boundless plans for her future, which included earning her high school diploma, attending college, and traveling to cities like New York and Las Vegas. She had a passion for gymnastics, art, photography, and choir, and had recently purchased her first car, a source of great pride for her. Above all, Aaliyah was deeply loyal to her family and friends.
