On August 2, 2022, a tragic incident occurred at a Chevron gas station in Las Cruces, New Mexico, resulting in the fatal shooting of Presley C. Eze Jr., a 36-year-old unarmed Black man. The events unfolded when a gas station clerk called 911 to report that Eze had left the store without paying for a beer valued at under $5. The clerk had earlier refused to sell Eze a pack of cigarettes because he did not have his ID, and when Eze returned to the store, he took a Budweiser beer without paying for ...
